Rockwall County's Office of Emergency Management uses IPAWS to issue real-time emergency alerts to county residents about emergencies that are happening.

What is IPAWS

IPAWS or the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System. Is an alert and warning system managed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). IPAWS allows authorities to broadcast emergency alerts and warnings to the public through multiple channels, including cable, satellite radio, and cellphone systems. The system is designed to get important information to as many people as possible.

IPAWS broadcasts different types of information, including

  • Severe weather alerts
  • Public safety alerts
  • Presidential alerts
  • Any other threat to life or property

IPAWS alerts are received by

  • Computers
  • Radio
  • Tv
  • Road signs
  • Sirens

IPAWS Agencies

IPAWS alerts can come from many agencies including Rockwall County Office of Emergency Management, Texas Division of Emergency Management, FEMA, and the National Weather Service.
