The Law Library's mission is to promote Justice by providing access to legal information to the judiciary, state and county officials, members of the state and local bar, and all residents of Rockwall County.
LEGAL ASSISTANCE VS. LEGAL ADVICE
The public is welcome to come in to do their own research. Law Library staff can be called on through the District Attorney's Office in Suite 201 to assist in using available materials. However, Law Librarians are NOT Attorneys.
By law, no member of the Law Library staff may give any patron legal advice. Accordingly, staff may not interpret legal materials for patrons, advise them as to how the law might apply to their particular situation, or assist them in preparing and filling out legal forms of any kind.
Staff can provide patrons legal assistance by directing them to topical print materials, sections, and subject headings that might by helpful in answering a particular question, but any materials chosen by the patron in a legal matter is left solely to the patron's decision.
