Study Rooms

Study Room Procedures (Feb. 2025)

  • Group study rooms are in high demand. Rooms are available first come, first served and will be assigned by the Staff on duty. Rooms may not be reserved prior to the time of use.  Sign-up for a study room is at the upstairs Reference Desk. Study Rooms are available for use by Rockwall County Library card holders.
  • At least one person in the study room must be age 16 or over with a valid Rockwall County Library card in good standing. This patron must present their library card or a valid driver’s license/state ID to staff at room sign-up for verification. Photographs of a Rockwall County Library card and/or of a driver’s license/state ID are not acceptable forms of documentation for study room usage. Computer-Use-Only cards (both the $20 yearly and $5 monthly) do NOT qualify for study room use.
  • The rooms are NOT soundproof or private. Please be respectful of your neighbors when engaging in conversation, video chat meetings, or any other activity with volume that could disturb others. Use headphones or earphones with device audio. Staff may ask you to reduce volume if necessary. Inappropriate behavior may result in you being asked to leave the study room or the library. You may be suspended permanently from study room use at staff discretion.
  • One person represents the group for use of the room for that day. Additional sign-ups by others in the same group on the same day are not permitted.
  • Groups or individuals may be required to leave after three hours in order to accommodate others in need of a study room. Small study rooms are 1-2 persons. If all 6 small rooms are in use, individuals may use the Quiet Reading Room, Technology Lab, or open study tables. The larger rooms are for 2-4 or 2-6 persons, depending on availability. There must be at least 2 persons present from a group to start your session in a large study room.
  • These rooms are not testing locations. Please ask staff for information on other non-library locations that you may schedule for testing.
  • No sales, client meetings, or other business activities are permitted in the study rooms. No sleeping is allowed in the study rooms.
  • No food is allowed. You may have beverages with lids.
  • At the end of your study period please clean the whiteboard (if used) and close the study room door. Return to the Reference Desk and cross your name off the sign-up sheet.
  • If you leave something in a study room, it will be added to the Lost and Found at the Reference Desk unless taken by someone else. The Rockwall County Library assumes no responsibility for personal items left in study rooms.
