The Rockwall County Detention Center is leaping forward in inmate wellness by introducing OverWatch™, an advanced biometric monitoring solution developed and implemented by 4Sight Labs, a provider of technology solutions for correctional facilities. This addition to the Sheriff’s Office underscores the center's commitment to improving its inmates' safety, health, and well-being.
In recent years, the Rockwall County Detention Center has addressed several operational challenges, including ensuring timely and adequate medical care, managing inmate behavior, and maintaining safety for inmates and staff. With an increasing volume of inmates arrested with co-occurring behavioral health and substance use disorders, an aging inmate population, and chronic health complications, the center has taken a proactive approach to detainee wellness.
"With the advancements provided by OverWatch™, we are making a substantial stride in safeguarding the health and safety of our inmates," said Captain Alexander Gray of the Rockwall County Sheriff's Office. "This system goes beyond monitoring vital signs; it equips our staff with the tools they need to save lives. When we can monitor an inmate’s health in real-time and respond immediately, we fulfill our duty to protect and serve."
OverWatch™ works by offering a comprehensive solution using wireless wearable sensors to monitor critical biometric data, such as heart rate, blood oxygen levels, skin temperature, and movement. This continuous monitoring is crucial in detecting early signs of needed medical intervention and health deterioration, allowing staff to intervene promptly and potentially save lives in a custody environment.
As the Rockwall County Sheriff's Office continues to adopt innovative practices, under the leadership of Sheriff Terry Garrett, the integration of OverWatch™ exemplifies its dedication to public safety and its mission to protect the citizens of Rockwall County.
