[ARCHIVED] No Swine Flu Cases Reported in Rockwall

No Swine Flu Cases Reported in Rockwall

County and State Authorities Monitoring Outbreak

Rockwall County officials want residents to know that the county Emergency Management Office and the County Public Health Authority are working closely together to ensure a proper response to the Swine Flu event. We have been closely monitoring events by participating in daily conference calls with the State Operation Center & Public Health Officials. As a County, we are continuing to monitor the conditions & provide information as necessary to our emergency management partners within the County.

There have been no confirmed or suspected cases of Swine Flu in Rockwall County at this time.

The public is advised to remain calm and continue to use basic health practices; such as staying away from those with a known illness, washing hands frequently, cover coughs & sneezes and stay home if you are sick.

The Rockwall County Health Authority met with local healthcare professionals on April 27 to
discuss Swine Flu preparations should they be necessary. Representatives from the Rockwall Independent School District, local hospitals and county volunteer organizations along with family health
practitioners attended the meeting. Royse City Independent School District is also developing a plan and is in contact with county and state officials.

The Health Authority recommends that residents follow these guidelines to help limit or reduce
their exposure to Swine Flu:

• Avoid close contact with sick people, and keep your distance from others to
protect them if you are sick.
• Stay home if you are sick to help prevent others from catching your illness.
• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing to prevent
those around you from getting sick.
• Clean your hands often for protection from germs.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs are often spread when
someone touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches
his or her eyes, nose or mouth.
• Practice other good health habits: get plenty of sleep, be physically active,
manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids and eat nutritious food.

Rockwall County will continue to work closely with local and state health authorities for the protection of our residents. If you have any questions, please direct your calls to Rockwall County Emergency Management at (972) 772-6625.
